100 Club Annual Dinner

10th May 2018

On Friday 4th May The Club hosted its annual 100 club dinner. The prestigious black tie affair saw Members gather in the Drawing Room from 7pm where a selection of refreshments from the bar were served as conversation and laughter filled the main room. Sixty Six, 100 club Members, were in attendance, bringing together an eclectic mix of old friends, new comers amongst regular faces.

At 7.30pm the diners were called to take their seats. In his welcome address Mr Jerry Barnes, the Chairman, made a special commendation to Mr Tim Mussared, The Club Archivist, by presenting him with 2 gifts for his overwhelming contribution to the Bicentenary Exhibition. Tim had flown back from Australia early to work on the exhibition, which features the inception of The Clifton Club and details the intricate historical timeline that has spanned 200 years. The exhibition was viewed by HRH The Earl of Wessex during his visit to The Club on Tuesday 6th March and was also enjoyed by Members at The Members Bicentenary Party.  After our suppliers and neighbours were given the exclusive opportunity to view our exhibition at our Friends & Affiliates Bicentenary Reception, it finally took residence in The Greenway Room to be enjoyed by all visitors for 8 weeks. Jerry Presented Tim with a framed contemporary arial shot of The Club building along with a personalised commemorative pewter mug.

The 100 club Members in attendance enjoyed a bespoke seasonal menu created by Head Chef Philip Clench, featuring delicious Wye Valley asparagus, tender Ashdale beef, finishing with an exquisite salted caramel tart alongside stem ginger ice cream. Over coffee service, the anticipation gathered as Jerry took to the microphone once more to make the big draw with a jackpot £750, Sue Bromhead; 2017’s lucky winner was invited to pick a number from the bag. She drew Number 31: Dr Malcom Campbell. Malcom made his way to the front to be congratulated by The Chairman and Mrs Bromhead before, as traditional practice dictates, generously offering to buy the first round in the bar!

Fran Tolson, our photographer for the evening from Evoke Pictures captured beautiful shots that can be viewed in the gallery by clicking here. Jonathan has seven numbers available should Members wish to join the 100 Club, securing a seat at next years’ event on Friday 3rd May 2019 you can contact him here.
