It is well known that Champagne and oysters form a perfect pairing, the former’s crisp bubbles cut through the latter’s silky richness, leaving a wave of freshness that feels elegant, indulgent, and timeless. What is perhaps less well known is that, like oysters, bottles of Champagne are best opened with a blade and, unlike oyster shucking, the art of sabrage is easy to learn, tremendous fun to practise, and completely safe!
On Friday 30th January, Christopher Noon FRSA, will regale us with a (very short) history of the noble art of sabrage, and the global society that exists to promulgate it (the Confrérie du Sabre d’Or). He will then teach us how to do it ourselves, so make sure you have a friend/partner with a camera nearby, as you won’t want to miss the moment that sword meets bottle. He guarantees that, once you have opened a bottle in this way, you will never want to open one in the conventional manner again!
The evening includes three oyster’s p/p, a fish pie to enjoy after opening your bottle of champagne. Champagne can be purchased from the Club at a favourable rate or alternatively you can provide your own (Corkage fees apply)
Price: £47p/p (Includes oysters, fish pie & sabrage)
