Speakers Brunch – Brief History of College 1862-2026

14th March 2026 - 10:30 to 14:00

Jeremy Pickles MRICS is a Chartered Surveyor and former Partner at Stephen & Co. in Weston-Super-Mare, where he specialised in the auctioning of property, chattels, livestock and more. Although he officially retired in 2012, he continues to conduct property auctions for his former firm.

Jeremy has long-standing ties with Clifton College. His wife, Karen, taught at the school for over 30 years most recently as a House Mistress and Director of Drama before retiring in 2017. All four of their children were educated at Clifton, further deepening the family’s connection to the College.

In 2012, Jeremy was invited to lead the school’s development department. In recent years he has served as Head of Alumni and Community, overseeing a global network of more than 8,500 Old Cliftonians across 103 countries. His role has involved extensive engagement with alumni and parents—past, present and future—through a wide range of events, including his popular “Brief History of Clifton 1862–2026” talk and guided tours of the College.

Clifton College, like many historic schools, has a rich and fascinating story one that is closely intertwined with the Clifton Club, where the school’s founders met in the early 1860s to plan its creation.

As always, the talk will begin at 11:00am, with attendees welcome to stay for brunch afterwards. Please arrive from 10:30am so that brunch orders can be taken in advance.

If brunch is purchased, the talk is complimentary; otherwise, a £10 fee will be charged to your Members bar account.
