Film Club - Passport To Pimlico

19 October 2017

Directed by Henry Cornelius, starring Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn.

When an un-exploded WWIIbomb is accidentally detonated in Pimlico London, it reveals a treasure trove.  Documents are found provong that the region is in fact part of Burgundy and thus foreign territory. The British Government attempts to regain control by setting up border controls and cutting off services to the area.  The 'Burgundians' fight back!

Speakers Lunch October

We welcome Roger Bonner with his talk 'A Job With Never A Dull Day'

Roger will tell of planning, developing and initiating a £200 million UK government funded programme in Pakistan to address a major blight on society.  He will talk about developing a programme to improve and extend thousands of existing schools by providing new classrooms and renovating the existing facilities despite corruption, threat of terrorism, earthquake and bureaucratic inertia.

We would ask guests to arrive promptly at 12.00pm to be seated for 12.30pm.  A two course lunch with coffee will be served before the talk and will be charged at £17.50 pp.  To book, please email or call Sonia on 0117 974 5039

The Clifton Reels

Once again we'll be meeting for a fun, energetic evening of Reeling, hosted by Brig Chris Day and Joshua Mudie.

This social event will take place between 7pm and 9pm and Member's guests are most welcome. The dress code is 'relaxed'.

The Clifton Club Awards Dinner

The Clifton Club Awards Dinner will be taking place on Friday 27th October.  This black tie event will celebrate the games and activities enjoyed by the Membership throughout the last year, serving a 4 Course Dinner with Wine with the meal £42.50 per person.Awards will be presented throughout the evening recognising the various talents and achievements in Backgammon, Snooker, and Golf.

Modern Medicine in 45 Minutes

First in a series of morning Medical talks on various relevant subjects. Each session will be delivered by a very knowledgeable expert in their field. Join fellow Members for coffee from 11am, talk starts at 11.30, those inattendance are welcome to stay on at The Club for lunch.

New Teeth For Old

Dr Adrian Watkinson MDS. FDSRCS. DRD RCS. BChD, Consultant Senior Lecturer at Bristol Dental School will be delivering a 45 minute talk on the ways in which Dental Implants can improve the Quality of Life.

Since qualifying as a Dental Surgeon, Adrian Watkinson has been awarded several Fellowships and diplomas together with a research degree from the University of Bristol. Whilst teaching at the Dental School, he began pioneering work in placing dental implants in 1988. He later established one of the first dental implant clinics at Litfield House and later at The Smile Suite in Trafalgar House, both on the Promenade, Clifton. Since then he has carried out over 2500 implant operations. As a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology, he has lectured widely in Europe and North America. This talk will look at the ways in which implants have evolved to become the preferred way of replacing teeth - be it a single missing tooth to complete tooth replacement.

Unemployed Antonio Ricci (Lamberto Maggiorani) is elated when he finally finds work hanging posters around war-torn Rome. However, disaster strikes when Antonio's bicycle is stolen, and his new job is doomed unless he can find the thief. Speakers Lunch - November Sian Flynn

‘Lock ‘em up or let ‘em out?’ An insight into the workings of the Parole Board.

Sian has worked in the public service for many years, having been a councillor, member of a health authority, Chairman of a hospital, and a school governor. Professionally, for twenty years she worked as a fundraiser in the arts. For the last twelve years I have been an independent member of the Parole Board of England and Wales, and undertake the full range of the work of the Board. I also currently sit as a Tribunal member with the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service.

This November sees a return to The Bath and County Club for The Four Clubs Lunch.

Christmas Fair

Following the success of last years' fair, the Club will again be hosting a Christmas Fair.  The Club is a wonderous place to be in the festive season and this event is sure to put you and your guests in the Christmas spirit!

There will be plenty of stalls for purchasing gifts and the £3 entry will be donated to The Marmalade Trust, one of our elected charities.

Members and reciprocal Members are encoraged to bring guests along, even if only for a few hours.

Christmas Members Lunch

Arriving at 12.30pm to be seated at 1pm, Members can look forward to a three course tradiational Christmas Lunch whilst enjoying some festive entertainment.

A highlight on the Club calender, the Christmas Members lunch always fills up fast and so early booking is highly recommended.
