The Royal Bombay Yacht Club - Member Review
The Royal Bombay Yacht Club – Christopher Day – 2018
Very well situated down town, just 5 minutes walk from the Gateway of India, the RBYC has been Mumbai’s premier club since 1846. We stayed for 2 nights in January, were made very welcome by staff and members, and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The rooms are large and airy, with ceiling fans and air conditioning if you need it – traditionally furnished, and each with a few individual quirks. Meals are served on the first floor, where there is a breakfast room, a dining room and a well stocked bar. On the ground floor there is a comfortable drawing room serving soft drinks, tea and coffee, and giving onto a nice small garden. Rooms and meal rates are very reasonable. It’s a Club full of character, not a 5 star hotel: given that it is housed in a heritage building in a busy city you can expect traffic noise! But if you want to experience a piece of historic Bombay – and to meet some charming and welcoming members (who seem to come from a range of backgrounds rather similar to our own), this is the place to stay in Mumbai. Or Bombay, for that matter.
