Professor Bhupinder Sandhu OBE, DSc, MD, FRCP, FRCPCH is a Consultant Paediatrician and Gastroenterologist, and since 1988 has headed the Gastroenterology and Nutrition Unit at The Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. Prof. Sandhu graduated from University College and obtained a doctorate from London University. After joining The Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, she developed a tertiary level Regional Paediatric Gastroenterology Service for the SW.

She is honorary Professor at UWE Bristol/Bristol Universities, and a founder member of BSPGHAN, hosting its inaugural and Millennium meetings and serving as its secretary and convenor. Prof. Sandhu has published book chapters and over 120 papers, chaired the ESPGHAN working Group on Diarrhoea and has spoken at many international meetings. She was also advisor to the World Health Organisation. Prof. Sandhu has served as President of Commonwealth Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology and The UK Medical Women’s Federation; Board Member of the Bristol Medical Association, UK Food Standards Agency, VSO, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and RMBF; and Chair of BBC West Regional Advisory Council. She received The Asian Women of Achievement Award in 2002, a DSc in 2008 for contributions to Education and was awarded an OBE by Her Majesty The Queen in the 2013 honours for her contribution to Child Health.
