200 Years of Science & Art in Bristol: from the Institution to the Museum & Gallery: Bristol’s Institution for the Advancement of Science and Art opened in 1823, making it a contemporary of the Clifton Club. A forerunner of Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, the Institution was an exciting venue for those interested in geology, antiquities and art in early 19th century Bristol. It had its own library, collection, displays and lecture space – and even its own curator.
This talk will introduce the Institution and its key players.
Members and their guests are welcome to join Dr Jenny Gaschke for an afternoon lecture.
This event will be held in the Front Bar at 4.30pm, with tea, coffee and sweet treats availlable from 4pm.
£5 per person. Please email Sonia to book your places.
