After almost 125 years as an all-male enclave, at a special meeting held in July 2006, an overwhelming majority of members voted for The Clifton Club to open its doors to women members. This will mean women, and spouses of members, are now entitled to apply for membership to join The Club.

Members also agreed to plans for a number of major alterations and improvements being made to the lay-out and décor of the building. These improvements have now been completed.
